Web design & SEO in Riverhead, NY

Websites, Google profiles and local search for Riverhead businesses: downtown on Main Street, around the county courts, along Route 58 and out through Aquebogue and Jamesport. We’re based across the Peconic in Westhampton Beach.

At a glance

The Town of Riverhead had 35,902 residents in the 2020 census; the hamlet of Riverhead, the town’s downtown, had 14,993 and uses the ZIP code 11901. Riverhead has been the Suffolk County seat since 1727, and Suffolk County Court sits on Center Drive. The hamlet lies at the mouth of the Peconic River, where Long Island splits into the North and South Forks.

The local business landscape

Riverhead is a working town in a way the Hamptons villages aren’t. It is a town, not a village: the Town of Riverhead contains the hamlets of Riverhead, Aquebogue, Baiting Hollow, Calverton, Jamesport, Laurel, Northville, Wading River and part of Manorville. The hamlet of Riverhead has “the principal downtown area in the Town of Riverhead and one of the largest in Suffolk County,” along Main Street and the Peconic riverfront. The Long Island Aquarium is at 431 East Main Street, and the Riverhead Chamber runs its Concerts in the Park series at Grangabel Park on the river.

Three things bring people to Riverhead who don’t live there. The first is government: the hamlet has been the county seat since 1727, and while most county offices moved to Hauppauge in the 1960s, Suffolk County Court is at the Arthur M. Cromarty Court Complex on Center Drive, within the Riverhead County Center off County Road 51, and the County Clerk’s court actions office is on Center Drive too. The second is retail: the Long Island Expressway ends in Riverhead, and Tanger Outlets and the stores along Route 58 make the town a regional shopping stop. The third is the North Fork. Riverhead is where the forks split, and farm stands, farm museums and vineyards begin along Sound Avenue and Route 25 heading east.

Transport matters here too. The Long Island Rail Road’s Main Line stops at Riverhead, and the Hampton Jitney runs a North Fork route through it. The Calverton Executive Airpark occupies the former Naval Weapons Industrial Reserve Plant in Calverton. And Riverhead is home to many of the people who work farther east: East Hampton Town’s housing plan notes that workers priced out of that town often live to the west, “such as Riverhead and Brookhaven.”

The Riverhead Chamber of Commerce describes its purpose as “advancing commercial, industrial, agricultural, civic, tourism, economic & workforce development,” a list that sums up the town. Its fall calendar in 2026 includes a Halloween festival and costume contest in downtown Wading River on October 24, and the town’s own calendar lists Hallock Museum Farm’s Country Fair on Sound Avenue in early October.

What works online here

  • Courthouse-district searches. People with business at the county court search from their phones for attorneys, bail bonds, notaries, parking, lunch and copies. Law firms and services near Center Drive should make sure their Google profile, categories and hours are exact.
  • Chains on one side, local on the other. Near the outlets, independent businesses compete with national brands for the same searches. A specific category, real photos and steady reviews are how a local shop stands out in the map results.
  • Trades serving both forks. A Riverhead contractor may work from Wading River to Southold and across to the Hamptons. Google allows one profile at your real base with a service area that shouldn’t reach much past about two hours’ drive, and asks service-area businesses to hide their address. Service pages that name the hamlets you actually cover do the rest.
  • The 11901 ZIP problem. Flanders, Riverside and Northampton are Southampton Town hamlets south of the river, but they have long shared Riverhead’s 11901 ZIP code. If you’re there, name your real hamlet on your site; if you’re in Riverhead proper, don’t assume an 11901 customer is local.
  • Agritourism is seasonal. Farm stands, pick-your-own, wineries and fall fairs peak from summer through October. See our off-season marketing guide for the quiet months.

Riverhead questions.

Still have one we haven’t answered? Just ask.

Is Riverhead the county seat of Suffolk County?

Yes. The hamlet of Riverhead has been the county seat since 1727. Most county offices moved to Hauppauge in the 1960s, but Suffolk County Court sits at the Arthur M. Cromarty Court Complex on Center Drive, part of the Riverhead County Center complex.

Are Flanders and Riverside part of Riverhead?

Not politically. Flanders, Riverside and Northampton are hamlets of the Town of Southampton, south of the Peconic River, but they have long shared Riverhead’s 11901 ZIP code. Businesses there should name their real hamlet on their website so customers and search engines aren’t confused.

Is Riverhead as seasonal as the Hamptons?

Less so for residents, but visitor traffic is seasonal. Riverhead has a large year-round population and county courts and offices that run all year, while North Fork farm, winery and fall-festival traffic peaks from summer through October. Plan marketing for both.
